I use CSS for this.  See:

The attached stylesheet kills flash (actually:  *all* plugins), and
fixes a number of other web annoyances.  It's heavily ocmmented.  Adapt
it to your needs.

CSS is pretty powerful -- you can kill banners, fucked-up fonts,
<blink>, and all manner of other annoyances.
