[plex86] setup: "user whiptail doesn't exist"

Hi:

First of all: Please excuse me for messing up
the "maildir vs. mbox vs. mh ???" thread.

I am trying to setup plex86 on a i386 Woody box. I compiled the
modules and made a kernel package.

When I try to install it with "dpkg -i" I get:

Setting up plex86-kernel-2.4.20 (0.0.20011018-8) ...
adduser: The user `whiptail:' doesn't exist.
dpkg: error processing plex86-kernel-2.4.20 (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

I added a user "whiptail" to the group "plex86" and whiptail-utf8
is installed but I get the error anyway. What is going on?
Does the user "whiptail" have to be present while ./configure
plex86 so it can find it during dpkg -i? Do I need to configure
and compile again?
I couldn't find anything mentioned in the docs about plex86
needing a user "whiptail" nor did I find any hint by googling.

Any help/hint where/what to look for will be appreciated.
Thanks for your time

Eike
