If you do this make sure you tell/told debconf that you want to handle
the XF86Config manually, otherwise whatever you do will likely get
overwritten if a new version of xserver-xfree86 gets installed. Just
do:

% dpkg-reconfigure -plow xserver-xfree86

and answer "No" in response to the question about managing XFree86
server configuration with debconf.
