this file here and reran 
now it works.
 
 dpkg: error processing diald (--configure):
  subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   diald
   E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Now route out is gone :(  Manually added w/route add default gw works
but where could it be lost?  Suggestions->rtfm's
