bash, ssh & scp, python & perl come to mind... ssh allows one to
log in w/o using passwords (by exchanging keys stored in files), so
you can highly automate pushing the same change(s) to multiple
machines from a single command script on your workstation.
For posers, there's always webmin. (just kidding!!!!)
X has network transparency built into it
