I'm sure some on this list would consider preventing you from using
Microsoft products a feature but honestly that's not the intention. :)

There are two open bugs about this: #108719, and #127790. nweither of
them mention MICROSOFT_BRAIN_DAMAGE being a factor and I don't think it
should be. That feature deals with Outlook Express'es (a totally
different product despite the name) excessive use of IMAP IDLEs.

Take a look at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q274259
Does that help?

The other bug report mentioned locking as a possible cause. Is your
homegrown imapd compiled to use mlock or its' builtin locking?

Yet another potential source of problem is detailed in:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q300562
(Don't let the reference to pine fool you. Both pine and uw-imap use the
same library to actually handle IMAP connections.)

A simple test to see if it is the SSL that's at fault would be to install
the uw-imapd package which is otherwise exactly the same as its' SSL
counterpart.

Other things to check are /var/log/mail.log and /var/log/daemon.log .

Personally I have no pressing need to interoperate with Outlook but if you
would like to work with me on this, I'll see what I can do.
