Look for a line later in /var/log/syslog (or grep for it though dmesg)
that looks like this:
Dec 14 15:11:01 jazzman kernel: Freeing unused kernel memory: 80k freed
(Note, I think the amount of memory freed is system/kernel build dependant.)
