I am not sure whether I understand you correctly.

You can use either wvdial to dial in or pon to open a connection or
poff to end it.

Did you run pppconfig?

If you did, try 

pon <the name of the provider you supplied to pppconfig>
 
to open a connection and 

poff 

to end it.


If you want to work with menu's and do not have success with wvdial,
you can try gui packages like kppp, xisp or wmppp.app
