Does it sound crap when you burn as root as well?  CD burning programs
don't just use their root privileges to access the raw SCSI devices;
they also lock their data buffers into RAM and give themselves real-time
priority.  It's possible that you're burning CDs that are corrupted
because cdrdao can't use one of these two features.
