Try:

cat <somefile.ps> | gs -sDEVICE=pnmraw -q -sPAPERSIZE=a4 -dNOPAUSE -r600 
-sOutputFile=- - | pnm2ppa --bw -i - -o - > /dev/lp0

All on one line, replacing <somefile.ps> with an actual postscript file. 
 Does anything print? Try it as root if it doesn't work as a normal user.
