Since your clients will still probably have Windows/Outlook, 
http://www.bynari.net is supposed to have a drop-in replacement
for Exchange 5.5.

Note that Free Speech != Free Beer, and that Bynari's products
cost money, although purportedly less than MS charges for Exchange.
