I have Debian on my laptop.  Love it!  But I am trying out both Gnome 
and KDE and they are kinda bloated and slow and I have big problems 
with Konqueror that I can't solve.  Can you tell me what options I have when 
you say "Use Neither!"  I am interested in trying something new and simpler.

I chose "kdm" for my install....I only use Kmail, Konqueror, OpenOffice, and 
Wine.  What do you recommend?  Do I need to make major changes or do I 
just choose "twm" or "sawfish" or whatever at the Debian login?
