I hope you agree that ssh's single windows are better integrated in
your desktop than VNC's single large desktop-in-a-window. I worked
with the single XFree86 window on Windows for a short time, and it was
quite awkward.

Sure, for this entirely different scenario, VNC might be your best
choice. Even more so if you want to connect to a windows server.
