WRT to your subject, you're more than welcome to switch to another
distro. Threatening to do so will most likely not help you fix your
problems.

For sound, take a look at the ALSA project:
www.alsa-project.org
If your card is PnP you'll most likely need to look at using the
isapnptool package. Another alternative is the take a look at the
sndconfig package that may be able to configure sound for you.
