Try this:

  ftp://ftp.debian.org/dists/potato/main/binary-i386/oldlibs/libstdc++2.8_2.90.29-2.deb

Eventually this will be moved to archive.debian.org, but it's available
for now.

Yes, any advice that suggests symlinking libraries with different
version numbers together is usually bad. :)
