"Stock" refers to the stock that may be in a store, such as groceries
in a supermarket, or say, software packages in boxes at a computer
store. That is, it is the normal kind and not some special kind.

"Out of the box" refers to the "just opened" product, as if to say
that the new, shiny product was just removed from the box it came in.
