Thanks to all who suggested checking for the "noexec" bit. I didn't have
it set in /etc/fstab, but after reading "man mount" I found out that the
"users" option I had set assumes "noexec" unless you tell it otherwise.
I can now successfully run Perl scripts that are located on an nfs
share.
