Ethernet issues.

Trying to use Debian to share my ADSL connection,

Ok, installed 3.0 and proceeded to install an extra ethernet card...

I can ifconfig eth1 <insert class C address> <Netmask> broadcast
<xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx>

Have tried several different example firewall scripts just to test.

Then trying to:

luck:~# route add -net 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw <ISP's
assigned gateway> eth1

I get
SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable

Any suggestions?

Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt
Iface
192.168.0.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 40 0 0
eth1
142.173.64.0 * 255.255.192.0 U 40 0 0
eth0
default 142.173.64.254 0.0.0.0 UG 40 0 0
eth0

Current hardware setup is the line from my ADSL modem going to a hub,
then a line from the hub to eth0... That all seems to work.. Eth1 is
connected directly via LAN cable to another computer that is running
windows ME and I think it's properly configured.

Do I need a cross over cable or would that not be necessary?

Or am I totally barking up the wrong tree,

Thanks in advance.

Gary
