Re: unstable, just how unstable is it
Someone wanting software from unstable might be better off downloading sources
from it instead of binaries, and building debian packages from it manually for
your stable system.
That way you are linked against stable libraries and such, all your dependencies
will be the stable versions, etc. Otherwise installing an unstable package
might drag down a lot of dependencies from unstable, and that might not be what
you want.
Of course, you would need to know enough about programming to be able to at
least compile your own packages, and you would need to install the development
tools required to build them.
But if you compile from source, be sure that what you do is build debian
packages from it, rather than just building the executables and then doing "make
install". That preserves your ability to do uninstalls and continuing to manage
dependencies and such.
