You have to copy the line into /etc/XF86Config ( as for XFree Version 3 ) or
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4, in the 'Monitot'-Section, and add a 'Modeline' at the
Beginning. Could look like this, for example:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section "Monitor"
	Identifier	"Generic Monitor"
	VendorName	"Iiyama"
	ModelName	"S900MT1"
	HorizSync	30-95
	VertRefresh	50-160
# Power Management activated by 'Serverflags' ( global Options before )
	Option "DPMS"
# xvidtune-Modes for Iiyama S900MT1 :
# unused:
# Modeline "1600x1200" 195.52 1600 1736 2088 2152 1200 1204 1219 1305
# Modeline "1280x1024" 158.08 1280 1292 1548 1688 1024 1028 1043 1070
# Modeline "1280x960" 156.42 1280 1296 1552 1664 960 960 975 1003
# Modeline "1152x864" 140.62 1152 1168 1384 1496 864 864 879 902
# Modeline "1024x768" 126.16 1024 1040 1216 1368 768 768 783 822
# Modeline "800x600" 98.8 800 804 916 1048 600 600 615 638
# Modeline "640x480" 63.98 640 656 720 832 480 480 491 501
 # in use:
 Modeline "1600x1200" 195.52 1600 1736 2088 2152 1200 1204 1219 1305
 Modeline "1280x1024" 158.08 1280 1292 1548 1688 1024 1028 1043 1070
 Modeline "1024x768" 126.16 1024 1040 1216 1368 768 768 783 822
 Modeline "800x600" 98.8 800 804 916 1048 600 600 615 638
 Modeline "640x480" 63.98 640 656 720 832 480 480 491 501

EndSection
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note the hint at the top of the file:

# If you want your changes to this file preserved by dexconf,
# only make changes before the "### BEGIN DEBCONF SECTION" line above,
# and/or after the "### END DEBCONF SECTION" line below.

I never tried to put the Modelines outside, so I need to have a Backup of the
Config-File from where I can restore them.
