fs corrupt

Hello.

I'm not sure if someone here can help me, but at least, give me the name
of someone who can.
Misteriously, yesterday before several commands in /bin/ stoped working.
A check in the logs revealed:

Jan 13 03:44:28 localhost kernel: init_special_inode: bogus imode (177777)
Jan 13 03:44:28 localhost kernel: hda: status timeout: status=0xff { Busy
}
Jan 13 03:44:28 localhost kernel: hda: drive not ready for command
Jan 13 03:44:33 localhost kernel: ide0: reset: success
Jan 13 03:46:10 localhost kernel: init_special_inode: bogus imode (177777)
Jan 13 03:46:10 localhost kernel: init_special_inode: bogus imode (177777)

Apparently, it only afected these binaries, but it will take some time to
check all the data.
Fortunatly after a reboot and fsck those
files were deleted and I replaced them with a copy from another linux
system. Everything seems to be working fine now. I'm
using linux for about 2years, and never had such a problem. I'm using
kernel 2.4.14. Do you know what's the problem? upgrading to the latest
kernel version will help? I'm not very aware of the changes between kernel
and drivers versions.

regards
