Depends on the run level you are in. By default Debian with gdm is in
run level 2. In this run level by default you have 6 consoles and they
can be accessed by:
CTRL+ALT+F<console_num>
where F<console_num> is F1-F6 (function keys). To get back to gdm use:
CTRL+ALT+F7
