Well, based on the information from this page:

It looks like the laptop has some sort of a problem with SCSI detection.

Also expresses a similiar problem.

Perhaps the bf24 kernel has a driver built into the kernel that is causing
a conflict.  Have you tried any other kernel-image-2.4.x package?  These
kernel packages are more modular with less built into the kernel, maybe
you'll be able to successfully boot wit one of them instead.
