OK, the quote is bad. I did a quick google and only came up with two

It's both rather far off your problem from the sound of it (the second 
one describes a problem in combination with a NE2000 NIC). Per haps you 
could try to switch the card to a slower operating mode. Start with 
going from full duplex to half duplex and if that doesn't help go down 
to 10Mbit/hd. modinfo should get you the parameters needed for this.
