trouble installing x-window
Hello,
I am trying to install Debian 2.2_R6 on a Powerpro
IV:24m AKA Chembook 6300C (really an ASUS, AFAIK) notebook.
During the package installation procedure (running in simple mode) the X installer attempts to go into graphics mode, then says:
_X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 111
Than it says it can't write xf86config,
and attempts to go through the whole procedure again (unsuccessfully) ad infinitum. After pressing control-C to abort, the package installer resumes, complains about not being able to install all the packages (I presume because of X and things which rely upon it), then finishes the rest of the packages and attempts to install X once more. This time it attempts to go into graphics mode, leaving my LCD completely blank. After giving it plenty of time to unlock itself, and finding it unable to, I press control-c, only to find that the system is completely frozen, which necessitates a hard-reboot.
My video controller is an ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500.
I don't know if it is supported with this version of x (from what I've read X works without acceleration on v4.1 for all ATI controllers), but I assume that it ordinarily should work in vga mode (the mode I attempted to install x in, after prompted by the installer). Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Jesse
