okay, last guess. how about using ps to poll the wchan status of the
process--or am i completely missing the point of what you're trying to
achieve?
i don't think i understand what you mean with this. i want to know
whether an interface like ppp0 is not only up but actually linked to
the upstream router. one seems to be unable to see that difference
with OS tools.
