According to this, you specified a DefaultDepth of 24 in the
configuration file (**) and told it to use a StaticGray visual on the
command line (++), but these two settings were incompatible.

What command line is being used to launch "X", and why is it
specifying "StaticGray" as the visual?

As a fix, you can either change the DefaultDepth to 8 or specify
TrueColor instead of StaticGray as your visual.
