Hi Alex,

IMHO the most critical point is partitioning, if you want to install linux
on the same disk as windows without damaging this. So read that part of
the installation manual *carefully*, as well as the fips docu (if you use 
fips).

It helps very much to know your hardware. Read your computer's manual, get
info out of windows or maybe open the computer and look what's inside.

It is certainly a good idea to have the installation manual at hand and 
follow the instructions step by step. If you have a problem you can't
solve, feel free to ask this list.

I found debian more difficult to install than e. g. SUSE, not to mention 
windows. As it has no hardware recognition, you must do a lot of configuration
work by hand. But it was interesting and I learnt a lot.
