Did you build your own kernel, or are you running an image supplied by Debian? What version of the orinoco driver are you using, and where did you get it? There has been a bit of strangeness with the PCMCIA network drivers with a while back. For a long time, the orinoco and similar drivers were developed outside the kernel source tree. At some point after 2.4 came out they were merged with it. So, depending on how you put things together, you might be running the old, separate driver, when in fact a new one is available in the kernel source tree. That might also explain the "tainted" flag from your kernel panic message. Old kernels didn't look for license identifiers, so 3rd party modules didn't define them. If you try using an older 3rd party module in a new kernel, it will complain about tainting. In any case, you might want to rebuild your kernel and make sure you build the orinoco driver that comes with it. Make sure you turn on CONFIG_HOTPLUG in the "General Setup" section of the kernel config and CONFIG_HERMES under the "Wireless LAN" subsection of the "Network device support" section of your kernel configuration. I use kernel 2.4.18's orinoco module daily without any stability problems. noah -- _______________________________________________________ | Web: http://web.morgul.net/~frodo/ | PGP Public Key: http://web.morgul.net/~frodo/mail.html
