Forgetting this has caused people trouble. * Grub uses the data dynamically and never needs to be run again. Therefore you can never have the problem that lilo has of building a new kernel but forgetting to run lilo on it. * Grub is more general purpose than LILO and runs on more (different?) platforms. * Grub offers a boot time shell to do things at boot time. If you are hacking in this area then grub is definitely better there. * Out of the box grub does not support splash screens. Patches exist but upstream won't take them until they do their next major release. Basically if you have to ask then you don't need to change. If LILO is working for you then there is no compelling need to switch. But I do see grub slowly replacing lilo over time. Just as lilo replaced shoelace before it. Bob
