You might want to try wyona cms [1] which is very easy to install [2]
once you have tomcat4 [3] installed.
At the moment it insn't quite as mature as Zope and I suppose it also
doesn't really qualify as a 'simpler' system than Zope. It is based on
XML, XSLT and Cocoon and offers tremendious flexibility.
I'm not sure if phpnuke qualifies as a cms but I see [4] that unstable
has a deb for it. That might be the easiest to set up.

Given the deb phpnuke might be the easiest to set up, but in the long
run if you are trying to replace Lotus Notes you might want to look
into something more powerfull such as Zope or wyona cms
