If you install the mplayer package from 

deb http://marillat.free.fr/ unstable main
deb http://mplayer.nmeos.net/ unstable/

you should be able to play most DiVX encoded files.
                           ^^^^

If the library dependencies are for libraries in sid (unstable), try
compiling the source package. Use the marillat.free.fr URL for the
deb-src line in /etc/apt/sources.list
