Assigning a virtual ip address to PCMCIA ethernet card
Hi all - I am having problems trying to assign a virtual ip to my pcmcia
ethernet card.
The card already has an ip address set. An ifconfig shows that all is fine:
florence:/etc/network# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:DA:EA:05:60
inet addr:xxx.xxx.xxx.xx Bcast:xxx.xxx.xxx.255
Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:48304 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:2622 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:1
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
Interrupt:5 Base address:0x300
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3924 Metric:1
RX packets:8 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:8 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
Trying to assign a virtual ip results in this:
florence:/etc/network# ifconfig eth0:0 192.168.253.200 netmask
255.255.255.0 up
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance
Stan
