I have just built a new system with an Asus MB that uses the same sound
chip. The kernel I used is a patched version of 2.4.18 to 2.4.19-rc1.
The first time I compiled it, the sound did NOT work and I did try to do
it as a module. I remade the .config file so that ONLY that hardware was
used for sound... and compiled it directly into the kernel. NO OSS,
ALSA, or any isapnp stuff. The sound started with no problems upon
rebooting the new kernel. Hope this is encouraging. Best wishes!
