Re: Can't connect to Internet

Sorry about the language... Makes me feel good sometimes, though. I tried pinging debian.org and got the following message: ping: unknown host debian.org Any ppp buffs out there? I'm tryin to spread the good word about Open Source, etc. I have no trouble talking the talk, but am having trouble walking the walk (i.e., properly configuring my own box). I beg for assistance. Thanks -- Hans Peter Snoblin writes:
Well, I'd say you're getting a network unreachable error because there
is nothing at the ip 123.123.123.123. Try pinging something like
debian.org instead. If that doesn't work I don't really know enough
about PPP to help, sorry.
And, please, watch the language.

Hello - If I am posting to the wrong list, please tell me where to go. I just installed potato via floppies and am now trying to connect to my isp to download the rest of the debian os. I used pppconfig to enter the info and create the files. Then I type 'pon' and there are no error messages. Then I try to ping 123.123.123.123 (I don't konw how else to test the connection) and it says something like the "network is unreachable". Am I forgetting a step? Thanks so much in advance if anyone can shed some light. I'm so frustrated with Linux right now. I love what it is about, but I'm f*cking clueless and I don't know where to go. Thanks again -- Hans
