creating installation floppy disks

Hi,

does anyone know a way to create the same type of installation floppy's as those provided on the ftp? So that instead of using the 2.2.x or 2.4.x kernel which comes with the images, I could use my own kernel.

This is because my AEC6280 ide controller doesn't work using ANY stable releases of the kernel. But I found that a fix was checked-in to the 2.5.16 and 2.5.18 experimental kernel's.

I compiled that kernel (on a different machine) and put it on a bf2.4 rescue/installation floppy (as linux.bin), but when it asks for the root disk, the kernel crashes with...
'Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at ...'

don't know the rest since the screen scrolls to fast.

can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
