netscape runs 'twice' since kde2

(sorry for xposting, but I'm torn as to whether this is likely a kde-ish
or debian-ish issue and figured I'd try two birds with one post)

Ok, I use debian and the other day I was fixing broken/unhappy packages
leftover from an upgrade to woody and lo and behold once the package
rectifying was done (where 'done' = 'deselect stops complaining every
time I try to leave') I was now using kde2 instead of kde

hmm... interesting...

Now, since then, whenever I call up netscape I get it twice... ie, the
first thing I get is a little error message saying it's already
running... while deciding what to do about that, one netscape comes
up... if I say 'ok' to the error box I get a second set of netscape...

other odd things I've noticed... if I say cancel at the error message and
use the first netscape to pop up, shockwave stuff doesn't work (dunno,
why, just noticed it happens) but if I say 'ok' and use the second
netscape after closing the first, the shockwave stuff works... but the one
I can't use shockwave stuff still reports to me that it has all the
plugins

also... if I try and use help on the first netscape without first closing
the second netscape, kde/xwindows locks up

as far as I can tell they're coming up the same version (4.77 en-20010326)

I tried using kde's menu editor to look at the menu item I'm using
(almost positive it's a carryover from the menu item I added to the base
menu while using kde before I upgraded to 2) to confirm what executable
it's calling and all I can see is the first two lines.... name and
comment.... they're basically just the name of the icon... all other stuff
in the menu item except the icon is greyed out

anyways, does this sudden 'netscape showing up twice' thing ring any bells
for anyone.... when I do a 'which netscape' from the console I only see
one line, namely /usr/bin/X11/netscape

*shrug* I'm baffled.

if it would be useful for me to report on the state of anything else for
diagnostic purposes, please let me know

-Alice
