How do I turn up another NIC ?

Greetings,

I am on my 2nd day and like Debian more even today.
I loaded up SID on my laptop and I used the PCMCIA Wireless
card to install, but I do have an on-board Intel Ethernet Pro 100
NIC, and the eepro100 module is loaded thanks to to discover.

My question is how to get the is interface to work ?
cardmgr works great with PCMCIA's and DHCP picks up an address
right away. The PCMCIA slot defaults to eth1 so I guess the
on-board NIC could be eth0. I'm just not that familiar with Debian
to know what to edit to get this to work. Here's the scenario.

Laptop ---> DHCP Gateway --->ISP

When I plug in a cat5 cable, nothing happens, and I issue ifconfig commands
I never seem to get it to pick up an address ?
I could use some help :-)

Thanks,
Dee
