maybe a route is down for you ? I just ran my update script
and it downloaded a buncha stuff:

receiving file list ... done

I guess the packages file is not updated on the remote end, even
though it downloaded ssh 3.4 for potato the Packages file doesn't
mention it(and apt-cache show ssh only reflects 3.3)

i posted my script here:
http://saratoga.linuxpowered.net/~aphro/securityftpsync

I only know basic rsync syntax so I can't debug may be the problem.

My guess is a network problem though, can you telnet to security.debian.org
on port 873?

backup-wa:/raid/debian# telnet security.debian.org 873
Trying 130.89.175.34...
Connected to security.debian.org.
Escape character is '^]'.
@RSYNCD: 26
^]
telnet> quit
Connection closed.

my security rsync script runs at 4:45AM PST daily
and my normal "debian archive" rsync script runs at 4:00AM PST daily
