I'm not sure this is related, but it seems that the ABI is
different between 2.0.9 and 2.1.1 at least. so I thought the
soname should be changed.

Well, it seems that libfreetype6 2.1.1-1 has the shlibs like
"libfreetype6 (>= 2.1.0-1)". If 2.1.1 is compatible with
2.1.0, probably you don't need to do that.
