have you tried apt-get install sylpheed-doc? That's how I installed
it...

Sylpheed does no wrapping until you click on Send. Test by sending mail
to yourself. If your suspicious nature demands seeing the wrapping with
your own eyes, you can always click on the Linewrap button as you write
the text (or use the Edit menu).
