startx & gnome

Hi, 

Up until now I have always had gdm running to allow me to pick my environment. Now I find that I need to start X with startx. This is fine, except that it starts KDE and I want it to start Gnome. 

Could someone guide me as to how to have Gnome as the default when startx is invoked?
