Printing

Struggling to get my Debian Woody system to print. Any help greatly
appreciated.

The machine is stable & up to date, been running Woody a while.
LPD is running & restarting it doesn't help.
"Cat Docs.txt > /dev/lp0" works
lpr Docs.txt says:-

"lp0: compatibility mode" & thats it, nothing in any log files, no
spool file written no printer activity, nothing.

I've messed about with /etc/printcap (listed below) tried magic
filters shown & tried without them ( I know without them the printing
would be wrong but it's not happening anyway. The magicfilter file
exists.

Can't think what else to try.

# /etc/printcap: printer capability database. See printcap(5).
# You can use the filter entries df, tf, cf, gf etc. for
# your own filters. See /etc/filter.ps, /etc/filter.pcl and
# the printcap(5) manual page for further details.
