Generally, vcdimager will reject the file if it's formatted incorrectly.
That should be the only check that really matters.

VCD is a lower resolution format that works well for TV captures.
SVCD is a higher resolution VBR format that is better for ripping
DVDs and high-res video. There's lots more information at:
