Emacs is a tool (well, a collection of tools); vi is a tool.
A craftsman chooses the tool that best fits the work at hand.
A sloppy worker uses a pair of pliers as hammer, screwdriver, wrench . .
.
Flaming vi vs emacs is for script kiddies.
