Not everybody's /usr/local is a seperate filesystem, nor should they
always be.

I have a workstation where /home is a seperate disk, and the other disk
didn't have a lot of space left, so /opt is a symlink to /home/opt for
very good reasons.

I realize you didn't want opinions that differed from yours, but you
posted in a mailing list.
