I think ALSA does support SBLive MIDI, but I haven't tested it yet. The last few 2.4.x kernels I've tried have had an experimental option to enable emu10k1 (the SBLive chipset) MIDI, but it doesn't seem to work for me (with Wine). -rob -- I did not vote for the Australian government.
