ALSA - no sound cards defined.

Hi
    I am trying to get my soundcard to work in debian with ALSA. I have used
alsaconf to configure the sound card and it has created a file called
/etc/alsa/modutils/0.5 with the following contents:

# --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
# --- ALSACONF verion 0.4.3b ---
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-ens1371
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1 snd_device_mode=0660
snd_device_gid=29 snd_device_uid=0
options snd-card-ens1371 snd_index=0 snd_id=CARD_0 snd_dac1_frame_size=128
snd_dac2_frame_size=128 snd_adc_frame_size=128
# --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---

whenever it try and start alsa using the init script it says no sound cards
defined. Why is this? How can i get it to work?

The debs i have installed are:

ii alsa-base 0.9+0beta10-6 ALSA driver common files
ii alsa-headers 0.9+0beta10-6 ALSA driver header files
ii alsa-modules-2 0.9+0beta10+1+ Advanced Linux Sound Architecture
(drivers)
ii alsa-utils 0.9.0beta10a-2 Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (utils)
ii  alsaconf       0.4.3b-4       ALSA configurator

Thankyou

Charlie
