debian on asus k7v266 with xp1700+ will not boot???

hi

i have upgraded my pc to an asus k7v266 motherboard with an xp1700+ processor and 256 mb ddr ram. however, i cant install debian on it!

using the potato cd-kit i get the splash screen and when pressing enter to do a fresh install it shows the lilo...................... with 20 dots or so and then it hangs!

the install cd is ok. i have also tried with the netinst cd from:
http://people.debian.org/~ieure/netinst/

but now i am stuck! i have an idea that the hardware is not supported under 2.2 kernels, but i cant confirm this. and even if i could, i dont know how to solve the problem.

any help will be greatly appreciated!
