not authorized to connect to Server
I'm using wdm as a local X display manager under Sid/i386. Following a
recent update, I'm no longer able to log in as either an unprivileged
user or root.
On properly authenticating to the wdmLogin widget, the screen blanks
momentarially, then the wdmLogin widget displays again.
My user ~/.xsession-errors file contains:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
xscreensaver-gl-helper: couldn't open display :0.0
I've tried two values for the authdir resource
(/etc/X11/wdm/Xresources_0), neither works:
I've tried two values for the authdir resource, neither works properly.
DisplayManager.authDir: /var/lib/wdm/authdir
! DisplayManager.authDir: /var/lib/wdm
I'm seeing similar behavior under xdm. However gdm works properly.
I note that the wdm changelog report begins:
* Fixed incoherent references to authentication directory. This was
a serious security flaw that allowed wdm to allow all clients to
access the display it was managing. (Closes: Bug#121056)
...which makes me suspect all may not have been properly fixed.
I can start X from console as a regular user using startx.
